Central Heating |
| Central Heating means heating from a central source.
The Romans had central heating which was either in the form of an open fire under the floor or through natural hot water springs. The heat from the fire or hot spring is channelled through large ducts built into the floor giving a type of under floor heating. Nowadays the heat generator is a boiler. There is no such thing as a standard central heating system, all are tailored systems to suit your needs. |

Radiators |
| Radiator under window will help to counteract any cold down draught. In other areas of the house, the location of radiators will propably be determined by the layout of the furniture and this is often on internal walls. Radiators should be located so that the air can circulate freely around them and at least 100mm above floor level. Radiators should not be located near fresh air vents to reduce the risk of freezing in winter.

Fireplaces |
| Fireplaces need the fan, pilots and burners checked each year - wood fireplaces need an inspection and chimney cleaning to remove creosote, which can build up and cause fires. You should check the chimney before the first fire of the year for birds nests, or for other debris have may have accumulated. Homeowners should install a carbon-monoxide alarm in the same room as the fireplace and another one near the bedrooms.

Multi-fuel Stoves - will produce more heat than wood and burns a lot slower, ideal for an evenings fire or to slumber the fire throughout the night. Natural Gas Stoves - Cheap mains natural gas is readily available in most towns. Electric Stoves - No chimney or installation required and can be fitted in any location. LPG Stoves - Gas appliances are very easy to light, with self sparking ignitions and a lot of controlability.

Underfloor |
| Heat energy emitted through the floor is partly reflected by each surface and partly absorbed. Where heat is absorbed, the surface will becomes an emitter and the furnishings will radiate heat and the room will become evenly warmed. The energy reaches into every corner of the room with no cold spots, no hot ceilings and no cold feet! Radiators will heat the air in the room and its furnishings. With under floor heating, the room and its furnishings heat the air.
